Allison Library Databases and E-Books

The Allison Library provides users with a number of e-resources including databases and e-books, some of which are available through remote access and others only in the library.

Online databases with remote access

Usernames and passwords are needed to access the online remote databases from outside Regent College. If you are a current Regent or Carey student, you may obtain these at the library circulation desk. The databases are freely accessible to anyone in the library or via the Regent wireless within the college.

Instructions for searching the databases

 

One username/ password will provide access to the following five EBSCO databases.

RTA (Religious & Theological Abstracts) requires a separate username/ password.

ATLA

ATLA Religion Database with ATLASerials combines the premier index to journal articles, book reviews, and collections of essays in all fields of religion with ATLA's online collection of major religion and theology journals. The ATLA Religion Database includes more than 416,000 article citations from more than 1,500 journals (571 currently indexed), more than 210,000 essay citations from over 15,700 multi-author works, and more than 432,000 book review citations. This database begins in 1949 although indexing for some journal titles extends back into the nineteenth century. This database is produced by the American Theological Library Association. It is primarily a citation index, although some full-text articles are included.

Catholic Periodical and Literature Index

The Catholic Periodical and Literature Index Online is the product of a partnership between ATLA and the Catholic Library Association. The database covers all aspects of the Catholic faith and lifestyle, and includes over 360,000 index citations of articles and reviews published in Roman Catholic periodicals, Papal documents, church promulgations, and books about the Catholic faith that are authored by Catholics and/or produced by Catholic publishers.

Christian Periodical Index

A bibliographic citation index (no full text) updated four times per year. Its purpose is to provide access to articles and reviews written from an evangelical Christian perspective or of interest to the evangelical community.

New Testament Abstracts (NTA)

An essential resource for New Testament exegesis students, NTA indexes and provides abstracts to a wide range of books and journals on various New Testament topics.

Old Testament Abstracts (OTA)

Old Testament Abstracts Online is a product of a partnership between ATLA and the Catholic Biblical Association. The database features indexing and abstracts for journal articles, monographs, multi-author works, and software related to Old Testament studies. Content from over 450 journals is covered. All abstracts are in English, regardless of the language of the original work. Topics covered include antiquities, archaeology, biblical theology, philology and much more.

Religious and Theological Abstracts (RTA)

[A separate username and login is used for this database]

Indexed since 1958 and updated annually, RTA provides summaries of articles appearing in scholarly journals in the fields of religion and theology. Abstracts from a wide variety of periodical literature including Christian, Jewish, and other World religions are available in English, Hebrew, Afrikaans, or major European languages.

Accordance Bible Software

Powerful software that allows you to explore the text and the background of the Bible, such as displaying multiple Bible texts and translations side-by-side; look up the original Greek and Hebrew words and their definitions; find passages from the Old Testament that are quoted in the New Testament; look up parallel accounts in the Gospels, Epistles, and Hewbrew Bible, etc. Available only in RCL on the Mac computer.

Classic Protestant Texts

"The Digital Library of Classical Protestant Texts" is a collection of sixteenth and seventeenth century theological writings, biblical commentaries, sermons and polemical tracts by more than three hundred Protestant authors. Only available in the Allison Library on the research computers located next to the Mac computer.

ProQuest Religion Database

Articles from over 120 journals covering religious issues and perspectives. Includes religious news and information, commentary on topics of general interest from the perspective of a particular religion, details on doctrines and philosophies, reports on religious history and archeology, and formal theological studies. Primary faiths represented are Christianity, Islam, Judaism and Buddhism. Includes many full text articles.

 

Thesaurus Linguae Graecae (TLG)

A research centre at the University of California, Irvine, TLG has already collected and digitized most literary works written in Greek from Homer to the fall of Byzantium in AD 1453. Its goal is to create a comprehensive digital library of Greek literature from antiquity to the present era.

 

E Books

RCL has a number of ebooks related to Jewish commentaries and the Tanak. These resources are searchable in the library only on the research computer next to the Mac computer.
