Borrowing privileges are extended to Regent College students, staff, alumni and faculty, community members with a paid membership, and through reciprocal borrowing privileges to students, staff and faculty at UBC, VST, St. Mark's and TWU (graduate students).

Borrowing and Renewing

Cardholder Agreement

  1. A valid Allison Library card must be presented in order to borrow library materials.
  2. Borrowers are responsible for all the materials borrowed on their cards and for any charges on items that are overdue, lost or damaged. $5.00 replacement charge for lost cards.
  3. Borrowers should note the time and date that material is due. Renewal reminders and overdue notices are sent as a courtesy. Failure to receive notification does not relieve the borrower of the obligation to return materials when they are due or justify a reduction in fines.
  4. Borrowers who are away from Vancouver are still responsible for ensuring materials are returned on, or before, the due date even if the due date has been changed/shortened when another user places a hold on an item.

Fines and other charges must be paid in full before Library privileges will be issued or renewed.

Loan Periods

Loan periods vary according to the type of material borrowed and the borrower's status (see table below).

Borrowers are responsible for returning items on time and in good condition. Loans of 1 day or longer are due by closing time on the due date and due date can be checked online at My Library Record.

PLEASE NOTE: Items may be recalled before the due date if they are needed as a reserve or by another patron. Recall notices are sent by email and MAY include a revised due date. We advise that borrowed items NOT be taken with patrons on extended holiday or visits outside the Lower Mainland because the patron is responsible to return recalled by revised due dates.

A limit of 3 renewal periods has been set in order to minimize the number of lost items.   After your third renewal all items must be returned by the due date.  You are welcome to re-check those items you would like to continue using, but we require all items to be returned by the final date displayed through 'My Library Record.'

To renew materials:

  1. Go to 'My Library Record' from the Allison library catalogue.
  2. Click 'Sign in' button at the top right hand side of the screen. Enter Login and password.
  3. Once signed in, click on your name to see drop down menu and choose 'My Account'.
  4. Click on the hyper-linked text that indicates how many items you currently have checked out (e.g. "7 items currently checked out").
  5. Check the box beside the item(s) you wish to renew.
  6. Click the "Renew Selected" button at the top of the list

A message stating "Too soon to renew" is displayed if you try to renew items with more than 7 days remaining until the due date (for regular loans). This is to prevent a borrower from inadvertently renewing too soon and thus using the 3-renewal limit too quickly.

Email Notification

It is important to provide an up-to-date email address for automatic notices to be sent to you.  The email address you provide will be used to notify you of:

  • Courtesy reminders of items due in 3 days (except for short loans/ course reserves)
  • Loans that are overdue or have been recalled/ requested by other borrowers
  • Requests you have placed that can be picked up
  • Fines or other charges that you owe

Please note, however, that failure to receive courtesy reminders from the Allison Library will not excuse borrowers from late charges.

Fines and Charges

Overdue charges are levied as follows:

  • $.50 per item per day for items from the general stacks
  • $1.00 per item per day for reserve materials or for materials which have been recalled by another user

The system will automatically block an account that has any outstanding fines or charges of $10.00 or more (or if an item is overdue).

Lost or Damaged Materials

Replacement charges will be assessed for reasons such as lost or broken materials, highlighting in or otherwise defacing books, water damage, or failure to return materials. Charges usually amount to a replacement cost of $50.00 for a book (higher for more valuable items) plus a $10.00 processing fee.

The Allison Library does not release patron / borrower personal information nor the personal information about items on loan.
