Borrowing beyond the Allison Library

Reciprocal Borrowing

Regent students can access resources from the entire UBC library network. If the Allison Library doesn’t have what you need, you can borrow materials from:

  • Micallef Library at St. Mark’s College

  • MacMillan Library at VST

  • Any UBC library

You have borrowing privileges at all these libraries. For St. Mark’s and VST, you’ll need to visit their Circulation Desk to request a library card and complete a short registration.

At UBC libraries, your UBC card also serves as your library card. You can get a UBC card at the UBC Bookstore on campus.

InterLibrary Loan through the UBC library system

If an item is not available at any of the libraries listed above, Regent students may request it through the UBC Interlibrary Loan (ILL) system. This service is free for Regent students, faculty, and staff with a valid UBC card.

You can submit ILL requests online via the UBC library website. Please note: requests cannot be fulfilled if the item is available at any of the libraries previously mentioned. For this reason, it’s best to check all library catalogues before submitting a request.

ILL requests typically take 3 days to 2 weeks to fulfill. You will receive an email notification, so be sure to provide your correct email address when filling out the request form.

Loan periods are two weeks from the date UBC receives the item. Unfortunately, these loans cannot be renewed. If you need the item again, you may reorder it, but subsequent requests cost a minimum of $30 per request.

Pickup and Returns

Items can be picked up at the Koerner Library or Woodward Library circulation desks. Materials must be returned in person to the same location where you picked them up. Please hand items directly to a library staff member.

Overdue fines and borrowing suspensions apply to ILL materials. Lost items must be replaced at the borrower’s expense.

Use Wayfinding at UBC Vancouver to help find your way around the campus.

Other Canadian Colleges and Universities

Regent students and faculty with a valid UBC card can borrow items from many other libraries across Canada through the COPPUL agreement.

To use this service, you need to obtain a COPPUL card at the Circulation Desk of the Koerner Library. Please bring your UBC card and a government-issued photo ID to get your COPPUL card.

Trinity Western University

Regent students also have borrowing privileges at the Norma Marion Library at TWU in Langley, BC. Students will be asked to present proof of current student enrollment in order to receive a library membership.

Atla Reciprocal Borrowing

The Allison Library participates in the Atla Reciprocal Borrowing Program. Participating libraries agree to grant check-out privileges to each other’s patrons. As a Participant Plus member, The Allison Library is now also available to Global Collaborators and Borrowing Only institutions, which includes a growing list of international participants. In order to find a participating library, browse the list or refer to the map here

Students from other institutions listed on the map can present proof of their current enrollment at the Allison Library Circulation Desk to receive a free membership by having their school's registration department contact the circulation coordinator (circulationcoordinator@regent-college.edu). Membership privileges will be extended according to the library policy for External students. Regent students who are studying away from Regent and wish to borrow from the schools listed on the Atla Reciprocal Borrowing Program map may also present proof of current enrollment and receive borrowing privileges that are in accordance with the lending library’s loan policies. All patrons are responsible for adhering to the lending library policy and returning materials in a timely fashion.
